How do I arrange delivery of the shipping container?

This is usually on a craned lorry, often called a Hiab. There are many  different sizes of crane, which can lift different weights and reach long or short distances, sometimes only beside the vehicle. Others can reach some distance from the vehicle, over walls, hedges or stacking one container on top of another. These vehicles require quite wide turning circles from the road to enter gates and alleyways and normally need about at least 10ft passage width. Don’t forget to check for overhanging trees and cables as they normally require 13ft 6ins height  clearance.

Check that the road or area is not full of parked cars during the time the vehicle will deliver ..Always check and discuss fully with your agent as an abandoned delivery will result in a bill ….with Google Earth and your post code the agent can often ascertain the situation nowadays.

The vehicle driver on arrival will position the vehicle as near to eventual landing place as can be achieved ,he will then need to put out his outrigger landing legs, usually 4’ to 5’ from vehicle this is to maintain balance when lifting the container. The ground will need to be firm; vehicles will not go on soft ground! the container will also need to be on fairly solid ground as it may sink during wet periods and if it becomes twisted due to not being level the doors will be hard to open or impossible to shut . They can be supported on 2 sleepers one each end or 4 concrete blocks in each corner, but the container  must remain square.
